Balloo Hire Apprentice Programme

Balloo Hire Centres, an award-winning supplier of plant, tools and equipment, with over 150 staff across 6 depots, are, as part of their £10million investment, building the future of the business via an apprenticeship programme.

Working with  Lisburn’s South Eastern Regional College we have employed 3 apprentices , allowing them to benefit from structured learning, on the job training, experience and continuous support to help them build a successful career within Balloo Hire.

Peter Loney, Balloo Hire Centres Workshops Manager comments: “We knew that investment in the future was crucial for our business and our industry. Recruiting apprentices from the SERC will enable Balloo Hire to create skilled employees, bringing new technology and further energy to the business, while still remaining  familiar with all our equipment, our values and maintaining our enviable reputation, both sides of the border.”

Our in-house engineers help to train and educate our apprentices in hands on part of the role but, also offer something that is learnt over time, experience. While SERC deliver the fundamentals of Engineering Mathematics, Mechanical Science, Energy and Maintenance Systems, Electrical safety, and Mechatronics.

The pressure to find talented apprentices will only grow, as unemployment rates decrease and there is a general decline in the number of candidates opting for a plant maintenance career. We have to compete with other industries to find this energy, enthusiasm and talent. We are immensely proud to have Sam Mc Gann,Reece White and Jake Harron as our apprentices and look forward to seeing them progress to full time employment within Balloo Hire Centres.

We will be investing a further £300,000 over the next 5 years in apprenticeships across the company, from sales, drivers, marketing, hire desk controllers and engineers. Providing a structured career path for young people to follow and become part of one of the most rewarding companies in the industry.
