Balloo Hire Partners up with Alzheimer’s Society Charity

Helping to address Dementia Challenges in Northern Ireland

Balloo Hire is proud to announce Alzheimer’s Society as our new Charity Partner. This partnership aims to raise vital funds and awareness to support the over 24,000 people living with dementia in Northern Ireland and address the growing challenges posed by the condition.

Dementia is one of Northern Ireland’s most pressing health issues, with the number of people living with the condition projected to rise sharply from 25,000 in 2024 to 37,500 by 2040—a staggering 51% increase. This growth rate outpaces that of England and Wales and presents acute challenges for Northern Ireland’s health and social care system.

Currently, over a third of people living with dementia in Northern Ireland have not received an official diagnosis. Those who do often face long waiting times, with some waiting up to two years—well beyond the nine-week target set by the health minister. These delays prevent individuals from accessing timely care and support, worsening their quality of life and placing added strain on families.

The financial burden of dementia in Northern Ireland is already significant, costing £997 million annually. If action isn’t taken, these costs - including unpaid care - are expected to soar to £2.2 billion by 2040. This highlights an urgent need for increased awareness, funding, and research to address the growing crisis.

Kieran Carville, General Manager at Balloo Hire Centres, said:

"Partnering with Alzheimer's Society as our new company charity partner is an incredible opportunity for Balloo Hire and the wider community. Their work provides essential support to individuals and families affected by dementia, and we’re proud to stand alongside them. This partnership allows us to make a real difference, bringing our team and customers together to raise awareness and support such a vital cause."

Funds raised will directly support Alzheimer’s Society’s vital services in Northern Ireland, including their Dementia Connect support line, local Dementia Advisers, and online forums that help individuals and families navigate the challenges of living with dementia.

Linzi Stewart, Regional Fundraising Manager for Northern Ireland at Alzheimer’s Society, said:

“We are absolutely delighted to partner with Balloo Hire for the year ahead. Their support will help us make a real difference for people living with dementia in Northern Ireland, where the need for timely diagnosis and care is particularly critical. Together, we can tackle the stigma surrounding dementia, raise awareness, and ensure no one has to face this journey alone.”

We invite the local community to join our efforts in supporting Alzheimer’s Society. From participating in fundraising events to making donations or spreading awareness, everyone can play a role in addressing the dementia crisis in Northern Ireland.
